THE ITEMS LISTED BELOW OUTLINES SOME OF MY MOST CHERISHED ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING
MY CAREER IN HIGHER EDUCATION.
- A total of twenty- five-years of administrative experience in academics, research, cooperative extension, and
international agriculture.
- Thirteen years of teaching experience.
- Eighteen years of administrative experience managing 1890 research programs.
- Thirteen years of administrative experience managing 1890 Cooperative Extension programs.
- A total of twenty-seven assorted publications, and a chapter in the 1990 Yearbook of Agriculture. Developed nine
multimedia productions.
- Generated more than $ 4,000,000 in grants.
- Appointed by the Governor to the Virginia Farmer's Market Board, 1990.
- Served on the National Challenge Grant Panel for the Office of Higher Education, USDA Washington, D.C., 1993.
- Established the first live call-in Radio Show for the Cooperative Extension program at University of Arkansas at Pine
Bluff (UAPB).
- Provided leadership for the development of the first national cooperative extension publication for the 1890 land - grant
institutions.
- Achieved accreditation for the Engineering Technology Program in 1991, and completed all requirements for
accreditation for Six years in 1994 - Virginia State University.
- Achieved accreditation for the Institutional Dietetics Program for ten years in 1990 -VSU.
- Acquired $45,000 in scholarship funds via a State initiative with Virginia Tech. for 1993/94-1994\95 academic school
years. This was the first time funds of this nature were awarded to this university for scholarships to specifically recruit
minority students - VSU.
- Developed the Persistence Toward Excellence Program for high school students in grades 9-12 at VSU in 1990. This
program was designed to recruit and retain minorities in the food and agricultural sciences.
- Established the first international agriculture program for the School of Agriculture,
- Developed a New Degree program Option called Natural Resources Management (NRM) for Department of
Agriculture
- Developed a Distance Education Teaching Lab in Department of Agriculture with one other faculty person
- Provided concept for the first course in GIS to be taught Fall 1999 called Introduction to Geographic Information
Systems in which I will jointly teach.
- GIS Workshop Training Activities - We received a grant via Capacity Building - USDA where I serve as PI. We have
been able to provide the following training on this valuable tool as given below since the inception of the grant:
20 faculty members and persons from state and federal agencies received training In Arc View 3.0 (GIS software) in
March 1999.
2. Provided orientation pre-training in ArcVeiw for 17 students (graduate and undergraduate). Nine of these students who
are undergraduates will be on internships at the following locations this summer:
3. Five students will be going to Alabama A&M to participate in a 1999 Summer NASA internship training Camp in GIS.
Students will be there for 8 weeks and will take a three hour credit course called Earth Systems and Global Change
Science
4. Three students will be going to the World Outlook Board (WAOB) (D.C.)- Summer 1999
5. One student will be going to - 3DI Corporation, Inc - Eastern, MD- Summer 1999
6. Five students received GIS training via internships in Summer 1988 at the (WAOB and the NRCS in Maryland.

- Developed Concept Paper for President Spikes for Frank Perdue to establish research linkage, and endowment funds
for the University.
- Received training in GIS and received certificate of completion from Howard University- summer 1997.
- Served on the Board of Directors for the North East Region Center for Rural Development for the past three years.
- Provided Leadership for the development of the fishery's program at UAPB, which is the fourth largest facility for warm
water research in the U.S. This facility is a center of excellence for this institution.
- Provided leadership for a major facilities expansion project for the agricultural experiment station at UAPB totaling
over $2.5 million.
- Established the first motor pool for the Agricultural Experiment Station at UAPB.
- Awarded the outstanding academic service award from ACOP'S section of the NASULGC.
- Wrote chapter 12 of the 1990 Yearbook of Agriculture.
- Established the first International Agriculture program for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff by writing and
securing funding of $500,000. This was followed by the acquisition of a $250,000 program support grant. I was also
responsible for these securing these funds via grantsmanship.
