All textbooks for college courses are available from the UMES Bookstore located in the SSC.  The bookstore sells a wide selection of merchandise that a college student may need, including: notebooks, computer disks, office supplies, greeting cards, posters, toiletries, gift and novelty items, and official UMES sportswear and paraphernalia, as well as fraternity and sorority items.  Used textbooks are also available.  The bookstore accepts most credit cards, and the Hawk-Express card.

Counseling Center Ext.- 6449

The University Counseling Center provides individual counseling to all students and is located in the Student Development Center.  The center employs an experienced staff that is available to assist students with personal and social adjustment problems.  While students may seek career counseling as well, mental health counseling is its primary purpose.

Office of Financial Aid - Ext. 6172

The Financial Aid office renders assistance to as many students as possible in the form of employment, scholarships, grants and student loans.  Financial aid is not automatically renewed, and students receiving financial aid must re-apply each year in order to be considered for assistance. Each student must ensure that he/she maintains a minimum credit load for a given financial program.  Some grants require 12 credit hours to maintain financial eligibility while others may require less.  Contact the financial aid office in Bird Hall for application deadlines and other financial aid information.

Office of Student Retention – Ext. 6215

The Office of Student Retention through its Access and Success Program facilitates the University’s effort to maximum student enrollment and graduation rates.  Toward this effort, a variety of support services are available to all students that include tutoring services, and provision of workshops designed to improve study habits as well as test-taking and writing skills.  Program facilities include two State-of-the-art computer labs featuring math and writing assistance.  The laboratories are located in the Access and Success complex adjacent to the Family and Child Development Center’s playground.

Office of Services for Students with Disabilities - Ext. 6461

The Office of Services for Students with Disabilities assures the commitment of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore to providing access and equal opportunity to students with disabilities.  Integration into the mainstream of campus life and empowerment are top priorities of this office.  Although there is no special curriculum for students with disabilities, its programs are designed to assist students in maximizing their academic potential.  The office focuses on supporting the positive development of students with disabilities.

Office of Student Accounts - Ext. 6092

The Office of Student Accounts is located in the J. T. Williams building on the third floor. The hours of operation are between 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. This office is responsible for tracking the status of student financial obligations to the university.

Student Check Cashing - Ext. 7747
