Connecting to a FrontPage Web

This tutorial covers connecting to a FrontPage website with FrontPage 2000 or XP. There are a couple of different methods of connecting to your FrontPage site, but we will cover the most efficient way in this tutorial.

  1. Start the FrontPage program by clicking on the desktop icon or finding it in your Programs under the Start Button.
  2. Click File -> Open Web...
  3. When asked for an address of the site to open, enter your complete website address (including the http://). Here are couple of samples:

    Sample 1 - Faculty web - http://facstaffwebs.umes.edu/improfessor
    Sample 2 - Student web - http://studentwebs.umes.edu/imstudent
    Sample 3 - Department web - http://www.umes.edu/departmentname

  4. Upon entering your website address, you should now be asked for a username and password.

NOTE: If you are not asked for a username and password, you are either inputting your website address incorrectly, or FrontPage extensions are not installed on your site. Click here to request FrontPage extensions.

You must enter your UMES username and password. This is the same login information used to access e-mail and campus computers. When inputting the username, you MUST include the domain in the format umes\username.

  5. Once the username and password are correctly entered, you are connected to your website. You are now free to use all the tools FrontPage offers, such as web forms, counters and easy website editing. Click here for a FrontPage tutorial.
